EXERPT from “Imagine, A World Without DIS-EASE”

We at the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing have been involved in one of the most comprehensive, worldwide, cross cultural broad spectrum voluntary human health studies of this world for the past 7 years. If you include Jim Humble and his studies in Africa, it has been almost 20 years. Ninety-five percent of the world's diseases have been treated with the Genesis II Church Protocols with great success. No monies were received from any pharmaceutical/medical companies wanting a certain result. The people of this world that have followed the G2C protocols have not been paid in anyway, but they have “self-dosed” themselves voluntarily. “Self-care” is what is being taught and encouraged by the Genesis II Church worldwide and it is working incredibly. Every person on this earth has the God-given right to control their own health and not rely on the pharmaceutical/medical industry. Archbishop Mark S. Grenon

Now, that’s scientific  –  Observation and Repeatability. That is why you’ll hear me say we are doing “clinical studies” all of the world with humans with our G2 Sacraments and seeing consistent results! Because that is exactly what we are doing and I will show you testimonies and how to do it for YOURSELF! Let’s look at the digestive system which to me is where ALL of our problems will start and where 80% of our immune systems defense is designed to stop pathogens.

This book answers questions like:

  • What is the dis-ease?
  • How does the body become dis-eased?
  • How was the body’s Digestive System designed to work?
  • Should you ASK YOUR DOCTOR anything about health or nutrition?
  • Does the Liver NEED to be cleansed?
  • Why is there so much Cancer in today’s world?
  • How to “restore health” from various types dis-ease of the body?
  • Are there testimonies of people restoring their health without a doctor?
  • How can I be involved with “creating a world without dis-ease?

Archbishop Mark Grenon’s New Book!

  • Bladder Cancer Cured!

Hi Mark,
Just had another interesting testimony the other day to.
A lady had been through our water gardens, and on the way out asked 'do you sell MMS?'.
I said we do; and she replied that MMS has saved her mother's life.
Her mother had bladder cancer and after using MMS she is now all better.
As a side effect, MMS also got rid of her auto immune disease which she had all her life, which meant she has never been able to work. She now has a job for the first time in her life.
Her friend who had the same cancer as her, followed the health system's chemotherapy, and is now almost dead. Roger

  • Just received our new bottle of MMS today and he's just had a bath in it, he's much calmer already :) Tanya
  • I shrunk my breast cancer rumor from the size of a lemon to the size of a small pea. the docs wanted to do a mastomectomy on me, which I refused. I refused Chemo and radiation, pissing docs off. I've been cancer free niw since early 2011. warning. .... Micki

I've been using MMS for a couple of years and loving it. Putting it simply,, it works. I have many friends now taking it and swearing by it. The first thing most realize is that they don't catch colds and flu's any more. Big pharma hates this product. There was a video on YouTube showing how to make your own, but I only paid twenty dollars Canadian for a couple years supply from a friend who makes it for us. Good health.

  • Alejandra Walker

I had a cat with an open wound of 2 inches and infected. The vet wanted to practice a sugery and said it will be a month to keep the cat with the cone around the head.I came home and cleaned the wound with 4 drops of deluted MMS that day and 2 more days. Thats all it took to take the pain away imediately, and just like a Miracle the wound healed and closed and dry in only 5 days; versus the month the vet was expecting.

Video summary: chlorine dioxide -an oxidizer (MMS) formulated by Jim Humble (from Project Camelot) first discovered its value when he used it in the Amazon while mining gold in the jungle. His business partner in the Amazon contracted malaria. He had chlorine dioxide tablets with him, dropped into the Amazon water, gave to his buddy to drink, and cured him of malaria. Jim Humble when he got back to the states launched his work to help get the word out. Chlorine dioxide (citric acid + sodium chlorite ) - this is not CHLORINE (which can kill a person). So don't confuse the two. Chlorine dioxide is an oxidizer (oxidizes anaerobic cells such as viruses, bacteria, cancer by stealing an electron from them).

  • Jordan I am a science-health researcher by need ( I used to be very sick, doctors could'n help) But a doctor friend of mine very open to alternative med. introduced me to detox, deparasite by Dr.Hulda Clark, then I found the MMS (Master Mineral Solution) protocols by Jim Humble and Andreas Kelker. I've studied and practiced in my own health, my family and Pets. The benefits are just like a MIRACLE. Fast, non-invasive, inexpensive. Only a word of caution:MMS must be deluted in at least 2 ounces of water because is very caustic and you do not want to burn the esophagus or skin, etc.
  • Wendy Post

I just wanted to praise you and thank you for having the courage to make this video. I also have been using MMS (which I always thought stood for Miracle Mineral Supplement) ..used it with great success to finally rid me of chronic lyme..this stuff is great..and I think it is absolutely criminal the way our own government wants to keep things like this from us. Thank you..

legalized MMS in germany, switzerland, austria in 2017

  • jessedholm

I swear by mms. We all use it in my house and we NEVER GET SICK!!!! Its amazing.

  • Mr. Lowery

I was suffering from recurring staph infections in the form of abscesses and I came across MMS while researching the problem. I decided the way MMS destroys gram positive infections like staph made sense so I did the MRSA protocol and haven't had any abscesses since. That was close to five years ago. Before that I would suffer an abscess about every other month.

  • Juan Soli

Excellent job my friend! I've used it for a severe tooth infection terribly swollen and it worked like magic. The pain started to go away hours after and the swell started to dissapear right next. This is a gift for mankind. Forgot to mention I also give it to my dog and winnypig and they're so healthy and vaccine-free!

  • Bastian Maerten

Using MMS for more than 10 years with incredible results for small and big health issues ! even for our animals ;)

  • Lor

CDS (chlorine dioxide solution), same as MMS only tastes better, cured my frozen shoulders I had for a year. I took it for the flu I was coming down with. It shortened the nasty flu I caught from the hospital from who knows how long to 5 days. Got a fever about 3rd day, woke up in a pool of sweat, could move my arms up above my head!!! No pain, like a miracle! Never came back either. I had a positive Lyme test that I thought was a false positive a couple years ago, hmm. Been thinking maybe I have fibromyalgia, for 4 years I'm hurting n tired all the time, maybe hormones. Now thinking it must be some pathogen, maybe Lyme test not false positive after all. I felt good for a good long while after taking 2 drop doses/8 times a day for like a week while I had the flu. Rested a week, did it again another week. Couldn't do more than 2 drops or I'd feel too bad. Stopped taking it, scary nonsense on web got to me. Been over a year and I'm feeling bad again, gonna start taking it again. My husband takes it all the time when he starts getting sore n headaches again. Also CDS healed my husband's bad tooth infections, joint pain, headaches. He also had a positive Rocky mountain spotted fever test that we thought was false positive. We just felt like we weren't sick enough to have these things, so figured false positive, they're common I guess. We took Doxycycline for 30 days after tests just incase, even though I had my symptoms for 4 years (too late for antibiotics for Lyme). Jim Humble is a great, humble man. People that take the MMS may be getting sick from the citric acid not the MMS, my husband did. Bad diarrhea. Had to stop until we made some CDS. CDS tastes like water, if you don't smell it you'd never know it was CD. No stomach upset for my husband with CDS. Sorry for long post, but maybe could help someone.

Awesome Video, I am a health minister for the genesis 2 church and i have "helped" many people. its hard to get people to believe it most of the time.

  • Alejandra Walker

I clean my slads and veggies with MMS

  • Christina Pansy

I've used MMS for years and it's great.

  • Cy Rider

Big thumbs up for promoting the benefits of MMS. I have been using it for 7+ years, it's benefits are limitless. Ever since I added this to my health protocol has made a huge difference. I travel often on commercial airlines and it can be very difficult keeping the bugs at bay.

  • David Lear

Been doing MMS for years. Great stuff.

Thanks for all your videos.................I've been using MMS for about 7 years. I don't use it daily, but when I feel a cold or flu coming on, I do the protocol 1000 and within a day or two, cold goes bye, bye! I have also used it on rashes and it's great.

  • Remetski2401

Ps. Been using the stuff for years! It works!

  • Alain Michael

It works. Humble’s work is legendary. Great video. Thank you

  • Silver Dust

I have taken MMS before.....  its easy to take, smells like bleach (but its not bleach).  No side effects.

  • Revolution4Evolution

Miracle Mineral Solution. This has been part of my regular daily intake for several years now (sickness-free years), I also take Vitamin-C, Hydrogen supplements (Bio H2, but considering food-grade hydrogen peroxide) and carbon-60. I highly recommend these supplements for general health and they have no adverse affects for ANYONE. Peace!

  • Melethrion

I've tested it too and it really seems to help, even to get rid of an actual illness like a cold or sth. Only thing I'd add to this would be, that it is now recommended to use hydrochloric acid (HCl) instead of citric acid, because with HCl you avoid unwanted byproducts of the chemical reaction which emerge when using citric acid and are actually bad for your digestion / intestinal bacteria cultures.. bc it benefits the wrong ones or so, just google it.

I've been using MMS for about five years now, mostly when I find myself with the sniffles -- or worse, having my asthma system make a reappearance. Yesterday (30MAR18) my nose started running with reckless abandon! I mean, it was running so much that used nearly an entire roll of paper towels! Normally when I use MMS, I make up an all-day batch with a 20 ounce bottle of ginger ale, but I didn't have any on-hand ... but I did have half a can of Coke. I used six activated drops in a quarter cup of Coke, and repeated it an hour later, and (eventually) fell asleep. Fast forward to today, and the nose is fine. Maybe next time I'll try the 20 drops dose.

  • joseph sixpack

i have used it for my sinus' mix it and slowly take in the gas through my sinus' as stated in the book. works great.

  • Gary Doherty

Cured me of dengue fever in 2 days. Supposedly there is no cure and you have to suffer for 2 weeks. Went to one of Jim Humble's seminars in Dominican Republic in 2010. Wonderful, simple and sincere man. The Russian girl sitting next to me at the seminar had been given 3 months to live - pancreatic cancer. She took MMS and was cured in 3 months.

  • Enrique Velez

I have that for the last 5 yrs and it works wonders, best detox out there... It even kills malaria? Is best to get the 1to1 ratio..

  • E. D.

I started with MMS in 2008, after testing positive for Lyme disease. I had had Lyme for about 1.5 years before I was diagnosed in the Netherlands by a doctor who suggested that I try MMS as a treatment At the time I took it orally in heavy doses of about 50 to 60 drops a day broken up into 12 doses. This heavy of a dosage is no longer recommended, since the protocols have been refined. It took about 3 months of this before testing free of Lyme DNA in the blood stream and another 3 months before I felt I was completely well. Last year, I was experiencing complications and a post op infection from a prostate operation and have been using the bath protocol with DMSO and have found it extremely effective. I have been doing it now for 3 1/2months and am now feeling incredibly well again. The clarity of mind I am experiencing is amazing and totally unexpected. For two months I was taking MMS1 plus MMS2 orally but finally stopped, since it was upsetting my stomach and giving me headaches. I then switched to the bath protocol twice a day and have found it much more comfortable and extremely effective. It is a bit time consuming to do the bath protocol, but the effects are honestly nothing short of amazing without the upset stomach effects of taking it orally. For learning the various protocols, I highly recommend Jim Humble's, MMS Health Recovery Guidebook. 2016 (most recent edition).

  • TheGameAphobia

No you should ALWAYS use it. I thought i wasnt sick and felt fine but i was told by a friend to keep using it and i noticed parasites where still coming out. I guess i dont know what feeling well is like :/

  • Katrina Sky Weaver

great info, i use mms for tooth aches, when I got the flu last year after returning from standing rock (which we were being sprayed rodent killer and pesticides over all the camps) and on my tooth brush....thanks for all u do, big ups to you Jordan....

  • Dee

Using MMS last 2 days to get rid of a UTI only taken out 3 times in 2 days and already helping. Pain has reduced about 80% with just the first 2 doses.

  • D.C

I've been taking this stuff for Years!! sodium chlorite, mixed with citric acid, gets rid of any flu within days, or if you feel the flu symptoms coming on, take it b4 hand and it will get rid of it b4 it starts.. :)

  • Petflora

I used in over 10 years ago. It REALLY works, but follow the instructions. Do a search fro The 1000 Protocol, which basically means making enough for 12 hours: drink 1-2 ounces per hour. + DMSO This provides maximum penetration

  • Aims

I used 3 drops of MMS on an hourly basis, for 4 hours daily. That was two years ago and it cured the arthritis in my body within a week. MMS works. . I keep it on hand and use it when needed for maintenance..

  • Diana Liberty

Very great video. Thanks Jordan. I take MMS internally and externally for healing, and get this, it is not harmful! And it is not chlorine.

The Importance of Silica in the Human Body!

Silica – The Overlooked Mineral

by Shabir Daya

Silica is a mineral that is often overlooked and yet silica forms the foundation of life. All forms of life, insects, animals, plants and humans, require silica to provide structure and strength in order to stand upright. Silica is also required for supple skin and adds lustre and shine to hair.

Silica is the second most abundant element on Earth, second only to oxygen. Silica is literally silicon dioxide found in sand and soil. Although abundant, it is estimated that deficiencies of silica are widespread. So how can the human body be deficient in silica when it is so abundant on Earth? The answer is very simple. Like calcium, iron and other minerals, inorganic silica needs to be taken up by plants and converted into an organic form that the body can absorb and use easily.

How do we obtain silica?

Silica-rich foods include oats, cucumbers, rice, wheat, onions, flaxseeds and avocados though this list is not extensive. What remains clear is that the silica content within these foods has diminished over the years, so much so that there is a major consensus that we may be deficient in silica. The reason for this lies in food processing as well as the way we cook these foods. When plants absorb silica from soil, it does not saturate every part of the plant. It tends to deposit in the parts that often get removed. An example of this is in grains where silica is mainly found in the outer part, which gets removed prior to grinding the grain into flour. This process leaves the grain devoid of many minerals aside from silica.

This is aside from the fact that as we age, we inevitably lose our ability to absorb most nutrients from the foods we ingest. It is for this reason that silica supplements may be useful to add to your supplement regimen.

The Main Health Benefits of Silica

There are many benefits associated with silica. This mineral is what holds our bodies together – without silica we would simply fall apart!

Collagen within our skin accounts for some 75% of the dermal layer and it is this layer that is responsible for the elasticity and resilience of skin. Collagen is made up of silica which allows skin to hold together. For moisture retention, skin comprises of collagen, elastin, polysaccharides and other compounds. All of these have large amounts of silica and without silica skin will lose its elasticity. Additionally silica slows down the skin’s ageing process particularly with sagging skin, which makes one look more prematurely aged.

If you suffer from general weak bones, creaky bones when you bend them or have a history of osteoporosis, silica may be of great benefit. Whilst the majority of us have heard of calcium and vitamin D3 as being of importance to strengthen bones, silica is an absolutely crucial mineral if you wish to strengthen your joints and bones. Calcium still remains a large part of the Western diet and we obtain calcium from leafy vegetables and dairy products and yet osteoporosis still remains a problem. It seems that more is involved in preventing and treating osteoporosis than simply taking a calcium supplement.

Silica works in two ways:

It works to enhance the remineralisation of the bone tissue helping to ensure calcium and other minerals are deposited onto the bone. Bone tissue is composed of silica which gives it the strength required for every day function.

This mineral also works to balance the ratio of calcium and magnesium within the body. This mineral balance is important because achieving it may promote hormonal balance. It is precisely hormonal imbalances that may lead to osteopenia, borderline osteoporosis, leading to brittle bone disease, also known as osteoporosis.

It is interesting to note that bone actually has more silica in it than calcium.

Silica is also known to help hair and nail growth. Although the precise mechanism by which this mineral helps hair growth is not fully understood, it is thought that deficiencies of silica within the body, and hence within these structures, is directly related to their health. One theory is that silica binds with several nutrients in the body taking them to the scalp and nail bed.

Silica is also of benefit in high blood pressure, arthritic pain and for strengthening gums and teeth.

Different types of silica supplements

Silica in supplements is obtained usually from horsetail grass, also known as shave grass, as well as bamboo and diatomaceous earth. Generally touted as the highest source of silica, horsetail is not a source that I recommend. Firstly, it is not the richest source of silica. Bamboo extract contains several more times of silica than horsetail.

Diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilized remains of tiny aquatic micro-organisms called diatoms. These skeletons are made up of silica. Over a long period of time, these diatoms accumulate in the sediment of rivers, lakes and streams and silica is mined from these areas. Silica reacts with the oxygen and water to form silicon dioxide. There are two forms of silicon dioxide, amorphous and crystalline. The amorphous form is largely found in diatomaceous earth but this may contain traces of crystalline silicon dioxide – a much smaller particle found in some pesticides. It is for this reason that I tend to prefer bamboo extracts unless you can rely on a manufacturer’s word on food grade diatomaceous earth.

The body does not utilise silica in the form of silicon dioxide from the soil. What occurs is this silicon dioxide reacts with water in the soil to form small amounts of Orthosilicic Acid (OA) which is then able to be taken up by plants and humans when we ingest these plants.

Silica Drops by Life-Flo contains 6mg of silica as Orthosilicic Acid together with vitamin D3 for bone health, biotin for hair and nails, zinc for its multiple benefits and boron, a trace mineral that is known to enhance bone health.

Silica is one of the most important components of collagen, the chemical responsible for the look and feel of our skin, hair and nails. Collagen, and therefore silica, helps regenerate skin, hair and nails by repairing connective tissue. But more than this, silica is imperative if you wish to protect your bones and joints, the cardiovascular system and other structures of skin.

What Is Silica and How Can it Support Your Health?

by Dr. Edward Group DC, NP, DACBN, DCBCN, DABFM
Published on May 19, 2016

Silica, also known as silicon dioxide or SiO2, is a colorless, white, chemical compound. Silica is made of the most common elements on earth, silicon (Si) and oxygen (O2). It’s also the most abundant compound in the earth's crust, where it makes up 59% of the total composition.[1] Silica is used everywhere, from industrial applications to the food and beverage industry.[2]

You’ll find silica in a lot of places — food, rocks, plants, medicine, cosmetics, toothpaste, and those little dry gel packs that are packed in with product packaging to absorb moisture. There’s even silica in your body.[3] The most common form of silica is quartz, a component of stone, concrete, and sand.[4] Simply put, silica is everywhere. If you’ve touched a rock or been to the beach, you’ve handled silica. Don’t worry— it’s mostly harmless and can even be beneficial.

The Role of Silica in Your Body

Humans use silica as a food additive and a filler in drugs and vitamins.[5] It has a low bioavailability, meaning your body will only absorb a tiny amount of silica and excrete the rest in urine.[6] Most of the silica in your body is in a form called orthosilicic acid. It exists in your bones, tendons, aorta, liver, and kidneys.[5]

Health Benefits of Silica

The exact role of silica in human health is still unclear. It may support bone health and the creation and maintenance of connective tissue.[7] Orthosilicic acid supplements have shown positive effects on skin, hair, and nails[8] by keeping these parts supple and preventing brittleness. Orthosilicic acid may help block the neurotoxic effects of aluminum and it's linked to normal immune system health.[2][9][10]

Dangers of Silica

Silica used in the food and beverage industry is safe to take orally.[11] However, that doesn't mean that silica is always safe for humans. Silica actually comes in many forms — some safe, some not.

Crystalline silica, a form that includes quartz, can be toxic if inhaled.[4] Crystalline silica is found in rock, brick, and concrete. Grinding, sawing, crushing, or drilling these materials produces a fine powder that causes serious respiratory problems. It is possible for homes to retain this sort of dust after a construction or remodeling project but, most of the time, unless you work on a construction site or quarry, you probably don’t have to worry about crystalline silica powder. If you do work at a place like this, it’s vital that you wear an appropriate dust mask or respirator.[12]

Diet and Silica Supplementation

Silica is naturally present in many foods and it’s actually essential to a healthy diet. In fact, natural levels of silica are higher in plant-derived foods than in meat or dairy products. One well-known plant with a high amount of silica is horsetail. [7] You can also obtain silica from other natural sources such as diatomaceous earth, a thick, white, siliceous powder that has a variety of uses. Supplements are another way to obtain the necessary amount of silica your body needs. If you choose supplements, I recommend MegaHydrate™, a hydration supplement that contains silica hydrate.

Silica hydrate is the result of silica binding to water molecules. When taken as a supplement, it hydrates cells and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Silica hydrate neutralizes free radicals to help preserve cellular and molecular integrity.[13][14] Like other antioxidants, it scavenges free radicals without becoming one itself.

Silica is all around us and inside us. It comes in many forms. Some, like crystalline silica, are harmful. Others, like silica hydrate, are amazingly beneficial. There is still a lot of research that needs to be done on silica and its effects on the human body, but it seems to have the potential to be amazing. Source:

6 Proven Diatomaceous Earth Uses and Benefits

You may never have heard of diatomaceous earth before, but chances are you’ve consumed or used plenty of products that contained it. So, what is diatomaceous earth? Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a natural product made up of fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms.

What are some products that contain diatomaceous earth? Some common products that contain diatomaceous earth include dusts, powders and pressurized liquids that are used on the outside of buildings, on farms, in gardens, and in human and pet foods.

It usually comes in the form of a white powder and is also used in water filtering, food manufacturing, skin products and farming to naturally eliminate free radicals, viruses, insects, parasites and other harmful organisms by binding to them and drying them out. It also has the ability to improve the body’s use of calcium, improve bone mineralization, protect joints and fight effects of aging. And that’s not all.

6 Diatomaceous Earth Benefits

  1. 1. Detoxifies the Body

Diatomaceous earth — also known as diatomite — works like a natural detoxifying agent within the body, killing parasites and viruses that can contribute to illnesses while also helping to clean the blood. It’s also inexpensive, simple to use and much safer than many store-bought detox products or plans. Some of the benefits of using DE internally include reducing odors, helping to curb gas, cleansing the digestive tract, boosting liver function and absorbing harmful toxins within the blood.

How does DE work to help with detoxification? Silica works similarly to antioxidants found in high-antioxidant foods because it retains its traits as a stable particle even while continuously suspended in a liquid medium, allowing it to fight free radical damage. It’s broken down into a colloidal form, which acts like a detoxifier for the blood since it carries an electrical charge that attaches to free radicals and other harmful toxins. Silica particles can then neutralize the charge of free radicals and remove them from the body through sweat, urine and feces, which slows oxidative damage and has anti-aging effects.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that silica also helps eliminate heavy metals from the body, such as aluminum, making it perfect for a heavy metal detox. In studies, it has been shown to have a high-aluminum-affinity and reduces aluminum availability from the human gastrointestinal tract. (1)

  1. 2. Helps Purify Water

Diatomaceous earth is used in many filtration products, including the trademarked brand name Celite, because its chemical composition makes it a great filtration aid. It’s able to filter very fine particles that otherwise pass through or clog filter papers.

This makes it a common product used in water filters to help prevent tap water toxicity and also purification practices for fish tanks. Additionally, it’s also important for manufacturing beer and wine, syrups, sugar, and honey without removing or altering their color, taste or nutritional properties.

A study published in the Journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology found that diatomaceous earth helps kill viruses and purify drinking water. Viruses have been found to be dangerous and abundant in certain sources of drinking water, raising the risk for viral infections and having a significant impact on bacteria and algae populations in the ecosystem. (2)

Researchers tested the effects of a filter containing DE on tap water that was contaminated with heavy metals and various viral strains. The results of the study showed that DE helped absorb up to 80 percent of the viruses present, including poliovirus 1, echovirus 5 and coxsackievirus B5, which were all present in tap water even after filtration. (3)

  1. 3. Fights Parasites

A study published in the Oxford Journal of Poultry Science found that DE has the potential to be an effective treatment to help control parasites. Interestingly enough, this was observed in hens that produce organically raised, free-range eggs. Giving two breeds of commercial egg-laying hens DE improved production of their eggs and egg quality compared to control groups, effectively working as a parasite cleanse in the process. (4)

The two groups of hens used in the study were found to differ in their resistance to internal parasitic infections, which was observed by examining their gastrointestinal tracts. The hens fed DE had significantly lower incidences of infections, including fewer Capillaria FEC, slightly lower Eimeria FEC, fewer birds infected with Heterakis and significantly lower Heterakis worm infections. Those fed DE were also significantly heavier in weight, laid more eggs and consumed more feed than hens fed the control diet, plus their eggs had larger yolks and therefore were more concentrated with nutrients.

  1. 4. Kills Insects and Other Harmful Substances in Your Home

In the U.S., DE is classified under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act as a safe substance for household use. How does diatomaceous earth work to. get rid of insects? It’s a natural insecticide, since it absorbs lipids from the waxy outer layer of insects’ exoskeletons, which causes them to dehydrate and die of water deficiency. This is why it’s useful in food preservation, as a natural home deodorizer and cleanser, and for helping to treat livestock suffering from parasites.

Using diatomaceous earth can help eliminate bed bug, house dust mite, cockroach, ants and flea infestations within your home without the use for harsh chemicals. According to the website for Pest Control Technologies, silica gels have been used by the pest control industry for more than a half century since they safely produce an electrostatic charge that helps them adhere to insects crawling over treated surfaces. Silica gel and diatomaceous earth have been found in studies to kill insects by removing a portion of the razor-thin, waxy outer coating that helps an insect conserve moisture, which allows them to work better than other products that relay on abrasion or poisoning. (5)

  1. 5. Improves Joint, Bones and Ligaments Health

A 2007 study published in the Journal of Nutrition Health and Aging stated that dietary silicon is beneficial to bone and connective tissue and helps prevent low bone mass (osteoporosis), which is considered “a silent epidemic of the 21st century.” Silica within DE helps with normal bone metabolism and joint formation, with evidence over the past 30 years suggesting there’s a positive association between dietary silicon intake and better bone mineral density. (6) Thus, DE makes a great addition to any osteoporosis diet and treatment plan.

A number of possible mechanisms for how this works have been suggested, including the possibility that silicon helps with synthesis of collagen (used to form joints, the lining of the digestive tract and connective tissue) and within the mineralization of bones. While more research is still needed, it appears that silica supplementation can be used to help support normal metabolic processes, preserve joint health and prevent bone disorders.

  1. 6. Helps Clean and Protect Skin, Nails and Teeth

Since it has natural abrasive qualities and kills parasites, DE is used in many toothpastes, skin exfoliators, polishes and skin scrubs. Just like other beneficial clays — like bentonite clay — it dries out harmful toxins and leaves behind clean, smoothed skin with little to side effects. It also seems to have anti-aging effects by helping with the use of calcium in forming strong bones, nails and teeth. (7, 8)

How to Use Diatomaceous Earth

You may have wondered, “Is diatomaceous earth toxic to humans?” Diatomaceous earth is safe for humans and animals to consume and also beneficial for skin, so it’s used both inside and outside the body. The Food and Drug Administration lists food grade diatomaceous earth as “Generally Recognized as Safe,” which means it’s legally allowed to be added to many different types of foods, beverages and supplements. (9) Small amounts of silica are normally present in all body tissues and usually found in urine, too, so it’s well-tolerated and not known to cause many side effects. (10)

What are the health benefits of diatomaceous earth? These can include:

  • improved digestion and more regular bowel movements
  • better liver and colon functioning
  • improved detoxification and removal of heavy metals
  • stronger immune function and protection from illnesses
  • a cleaner home, free from parasites, bed bugs and viruses
  • healthier-looking skin, hair and nails
  • stronger bones and protection from fractures or osteoporosis
  • improved joint and ligament health
  • improved energy
  • for dogs and cats, cleaner skin and flea control

What is diatomaceous earth used for? As mentioned previously, common products that contain diatomaceous earth include dusts, powders and pressurized liquids that are used on the outside of buildings, on farms, in gardens, and in human and pet foods. In addition, today, there are over 150 pesticide-related products registered for use both indoors and outdoors that contain DE. There are also thousands of non-pesticide, food grade diatomaceous earth products that are used on the skin, in food, and in supplements or medications.

Some of the most popular diatomaceous earth uses include:

  • pet nutrition products
  • products used on dogs and cats to kill fleas
  • bed bug-killing treatments
  • sprays and products used for insect control, including cockroaches, crickets, fleas, ticks, spiders
  • rodent sprays
  • water filters
  • skin care products
  • toothpastes
  • foods and beverages, such as in beer and wine
  • anti-caking and clarifying ingredients used in food manufacturing
  • supplements and medicines
  • rubbers and paints used in construction
  • abrasive products used as defoliators and for cleaning

How Diatomaceous Earth Works

DE goes by many names other than diatomaceous earth, including: dinosaur dust, miracle mineral, fossil shell and ancient treasure. According to the National Pesticide Information Center, diatoms found in DE are actually skeletons that are made up of silica, a very common type of matter found in nature that makes up about 26 percent of the earth’s crust. There are various types of natural silica, many of which you probably recognize, including: sand, emerald, quartz, feldspar, mica, clay, asbestos and glass. (11)

Diatomaceous earth is available in two different grades: food grade (meant to taken internally by humans) and non-food grade (used in industrial practices). (12) Due to its natural detoxifying, liver-cleansing, antiviral and antiparasitic effects, DE has been used in household, beauty, food and pesticide products made for killing or reducing toxins, insects, rodents and bugs since the 1960s. The substances used to make diatomaceous earth are safe and taken directly from the sea, since diatom silica deposits accumulate over time in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes and oceans.

Although it’s able to kill and ward off viruses, parasites, bugs and rodents, diatomaceous earth is not poisonous. The Diatomaceous Earth website states that DE is one of the “cheapest and most versatile health products on the market,” mostly because silicon used to make DE is the second most abundant element in soil. (13)

Silica used to make diatomaceous earth is a key common component of the earth’s natural rock, sands and clays. Some DE is even found in humans and animals within their skeletons, since it helps form bone. Silica is an important component of human ligaments, cartilage and musculature and is also abundant in plants since it facilitates their growth and development. Studies have shown that it’s an essential mineral for the body to build strong bones, hair, nails and teeth and needed to carry calcium into various parts of the body. (14)

According to research published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging, many forms of silica exist in nature, and compelling data supports myriad beneficial effects of consuming more silica within water. Orthosilicic acid is the form of silicon predominantly absorbed by humans and found in numerous tissues, including nails, bones, tendons, the aorta, the liver and the kidneys. (15) Compelling evidence exists that suggests silica is essential for health and has strong anti-aging effects. Deficiencies in silica can contribute to:

  • abnormal growth
  • deformities in skull and peripheral bones
  • joint pain caused from poorly formed joints and reduced contents of cartilage and collagen
  • disruption of mineral balance
  • damage to the femur and vertebrae

How exactly does DE help improve health and kill parasites or viruses?

While silica itself is a natural substance found in seawater, silicon dioxide (used to make DE) is not. It’s created chemically by adding oxygen and water to pure silica. Silicon dioxide comes in two forms: crystalline and amorphous. Amorphous is the type used in the majority of diatomaceous earth products.

DE’s chemical composition allows it to stand up well to both water and sunlight without becoming altered or evaporated, which makes it useful in a variety of different liquid and solid products. It’s a dry substance that’s also abrasive and has sharp edges. It works by interacting with special oils and fats found within insects and other organisms, causing the cuticle of the organism’s skeleton to dry up so it dies.

You don’t actually have to eat DE to experience its effects, and neither do rodents or bugs. Because it’s a dry dust or powder, it can travel through the air, so exposure can happen when the dust is either breathed in, comes into contact with the skin, gets inside the eyes or is eaten.

Once it enters the body, only a very small amount is actually absorbed while the rest is quickly excreted through the lungs and urine. It doesn’t tend to linger in the body for very long, although some studies have found that crystalline diatomaceous (the type of silicon that’s very small) can accumulate in small amounts in the lung tissue and lymph nodes. While it gets flushed from the body, it lowers the presence of heavy metals and other toxins that can contribute to allergies, infections, sluggish digestion and more.

When it comes to the role of silica, the body uses this to store minerals such as calcium in joints, organs and other soft tissues. This can help prevent health problems due to calcium deficiency, including bone spurs, arthritis, osteoporosis, weak hair and brittle nails. (16)

How to Use Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth comes in several forms:

  • granulated diatomaceous earth, a raw material made from crushing silica that’s usually available as a powder and safe for human consumption (to be food-grade, it must contain less than 1 percent crystalline silica)
  • milled or micronized diatomaceous earth, a very fine form used in pesticides and insecticides
  • calcined diatomaceous earth, a heat-treated and activated form used in water filtering and explosives

You can purchase food-grade diatomaceous earth in some health food stores or online.

Here are the recommended steps for safely using DE as a detoxification agent and to protect bones and joints:

  • Take about one teaspoon of food-grade diatomaceous earth with water once a day. It’s best used on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after eating.
  • Drink an additional cup of water after each dose of DE to improve its effects. In general, make sure to consume plenty of water with DE and stay hydrated.
  • Increase your dosage slowly over several weeks, working your way up from one teaspoon to two teaspoons daily, or one tablespoon max. Split the dosage into two parts taken in the morning and one at night.
  • Take DE 10 days on and 10 days off for 90 days to effectively and safely detox. Another strategy is to take it daily for a few weeks at a time as you track symptoms, stopping and starting again throughout the year. It’s safest when you give your body breaks and don’t use it continuously for very long periods of time.
  • As a note of caution, initially you might notice some mild side effects that can develop as your gut environment changes, yeast dies off and your body releases stored toxins. This can include mild headaches, fatigue and flu-like symptoms, which should diminish within a couple weeks.

Wondering what DE taste like? It’s basically tasteless and has a rough, gritty texture. You can take it with water or mix it into another liquid if you prefer, such as  juice, yogurt or a smoothie. It won’t dissolve when mixed into water, so it’s normal to see some residue. You can stir vigorously before consumption to break it up, but it’s still going to leave behind some chalkiness and a gritty texture, which is why disguising it is a good idea.

How do you apply diatomaceous earth in other ways? Here’s how to use diatomaceous earth in your home:

  • Step 1: Brush and vacuum carpets or any area where you think bugs, insects or fleas could be lurking. This will aggravate them and get them to move, which allows DE to work better. (17)
  • Step 2: Apply diatomaceous earth powder where needed in your home, yard, your carpets, car, etc. Rub the powder into the carpets with a broom. Use enough to finely cover the surface but not too much that it’s easy to breathe in a lot.
  • Step 3: Let the powder sit for about four to 12 hours before vacuuming. It’s recommended that you repeat this process once a week for a total of three to four weeks.

Are There Any Side Effects of Diatomaceous Earth?

Although it’s generally recognized as safe to use on the body or to consume, some people react to DE by experiencing irritation and other side effects. It’s possible for diatomaceous earth to irritate the nose and nasal passages when you breathe it in, or if consumed in large amounts, it can contribute to coughs and shortness of breath.

It also has the potential to irritate the skin and cause some mild irritation and dryness. If you have sensitive skin, eyes or nasal passages, it’s a good idea to monitor your symptoms and watch out for any strong reactions. It’s also recommended that you keep DE away from babies and small children who might be more sensitive to DE’s effects and can react to it by experiencing irritations.

As far as long-term exposure goes, in animal studies generally no health effects have been observed even after applying diatomaceous earth to animals’ skin five times per week for several weeks. In a rat study, researchers fed rats high doses of diatomaceous earth for six months and found no evidence of reproductive or developmental effects.

That being said, the National Pesticide Information Center states that there’s some evidence that inhaling a very small amount of crystalline silicon over time (the kind used in small quantities in some types of diatomaceous earth, especially pesticides) might contribute to silicosis, chronic bronchitis and other respiratory problems in a small percentage of cases. However, the risk seems low considering the vast majority of diatomaceous earth used in products for human consumption is amorphous, not crystalline.

Diatomaceous Earth’s Impact on the Environment

Wondering if DE can harm animals or contribute to environmental pollution? Evidence shows this is very unlikely and that diatomaceous earth is actually nontoxic to mammals, fish and aquatic invertebrates.

It’s commonly encountered by birds and other wildlife in nature but has been found to be harmless to birds, fish or other wildlife in numerous studies. In fact, silica is naturally plentiful in the ocean, and seawater contains vast amounts of diatomaceous earth. The skeletons of many types of sea life and marine organisms are actually made using silica, and therefore it seems to pose no major risks to most species.

As far as plants go, DE can actually be beneficial since it’s used as a growing medium in potted plants. It’s sold as natural soil additive and helps soil retain water and nutrients, while allowing for more oxygen circulation and killing off parasites. It also helps preserve foods naturally (such as grains or legumes, which can grow mold) and helps replenish soil so more plants and food can be grown for livestock and human consumption.
